First Craft show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so excited, at the beginning of December I got to partcicpate in my first craft show!    It was so much fun!    This one sounded like so much fun! The whole thing was geared  towards the kids. Like a secret santa. A place for kids to shop.  Adults too,but it was all geared towards the little ones. No one minded little ones looking and touching their items, asking questions.
They even had a gift wrapping station!  Such a blast!

The people that  were running it did an amazing job organizing it!  They were so friendly and helpful!  They made me more excited for this new adventure of mine.
There was so many great crafters,  lots of  fun and nice people to talk to.  So many people came!

Oh did mention even the big guy came by? Yup! That's right even Santa came by for a visit!  I can't mention enough how much fun this was.

My son had  so much fun shopping at all the different vendors.  He got all his  christmas shopping done in one afternoon. It was so much fun watching him decide what to get each person he was shopping for.

I have to admitt though, I was a little nervous. what if they didn't like my items?  Who am I gonna talk to?   Is this even worth my time? Am I just being silly?

Well..... it was amazing, so many people was  shopping, talking, and  having a good time. The afternoon flew by!

I'm so glad  I ventured out of my comfort zone and tried this new experience. I hope to  try some more in the next year, especially if these ladies run one again!

Here are some pictures from that day!

 Have  a blessed night!

Another cold morning!

Well....  It is another cold morning here in Iowa!   We went from 72  degrees down to 21 degrees! Wow! Drastic change!  I  love the change, but sometimes, okay alot of the times I'm not ready for it.

Not only does it make it harder for us to get up and moving in the mornings, it really messes with my boys breathing.

As soon as the weather gets under control so will their breathing it just makes for some long nights.

Anywhoo... on to better news!  I will be participating in a craft show just for kids. It is like the secret santa shops they have at schools, but it will all be handmade items from local vendors! They will have food, gift wrapping stations and more!

I can't wait!   This will be a great way to start off the Christmas season! It will also be my first craft show!  I will post more about this along with some pictures after. Stay tuned!

I would love to share one of my favorite cards that I've made!

http://nvy.gd/LHzvLU

I just love this get well card!  I don't know if it is the butterflies or the sparkle or just both!

WE will be sending 50 hats and gloves out by the end of the month to help out East. The kids are very excited about this. After this donation we will be starting on our next one for a shelter down the street from us.

Time for me to get the kiddos ready for school! Hope everyone has a warm and blessed day!
Happy Tuesday!

Hello Fall!

Oh my! I've been so busy I haven't had time to blog!  I'm going to have to get better at this.

Well....  We have been going to alot of activites lately more than we usually do. I guess that is what happens when the kiddos get older and start going clubs and stuff.

The kids have  been in the Halloween parades. I've lived here my whole life and never went to them. It was a blast!  All the floats and people. We even got to see the Zombies come out! So much fun! Gonna have to go again next year!

I just love this time of year. the changing leaves, which are now all over my yard! lol

That's okay, I love seeing my kids playing in them. They are talking about snow here in Iowa soon. I've got mixed emotions about that.  I love it,but hate driving in it.

My oldest is studying to get her drivers permitt. I'm nervous and excited for her at the same time. I'll have to keep you posted.

Well.... I have to get off here and get the kiddos to school!

Oh! I haven't given up on my book yet. I haven't heard anything back yet,but I did send it to some other places.

My shop is doing great!  I'm having a sale use code fall12 to get 12% off your order!

Angry Birds Party!

This past weekend was my son's 8th birthday and we decided  on an Angry Birds Party!  He had such a blast from building the slingshot to tearing into the cupcakes!

Thanks to the wonderful people on my computer I was able to print off lots of items for this party and be the most awesome mom ever in my son's eyes!

It was a beautiful sunny day and we were able to have a great time at the park!

First up I wanna show you the sling shot that my hubby and kids made. wouldn't be an angry birds party without a sling shot, right?
Here's my boys building it.
Here is what it looks like finished, great right?
we set up boxes and cans we painted to  look like piggies and just let the kids have fun. Okay, mom had to try it too. lol

My son had so much fun with the sling shot and just knocking the boxes down!

For the cake I decided to do cupcakes. Now keep in mind I of course wanted to do something really special. I stayed up to midnight tryin and  trying to make these one kind of cupcakes, but finally gave in and made these really cute ones instead. They were a big hit! They were so yummy!

Everyone had a great time and thanks to this great website, http://www.squidoo.com/angry-birds-party-ideas  I was able to pull off the greatest angry birds party for my son!
Thanks guys!

All in all it was a fun day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves!

Happy Birthday to my 8 year old!

Rainny Days

Rainy Days, are just wonderful days to be lazy!  I've recently had a rainy day this week end and decided to spend it baking.   Rainy days and cooler weather is just right for new recipes!  Nothing like the aroma of baked goods in my kitchen!

I decided to bake some brownies, rice crispy treats with a twist and some dip.  Today I thought I'd share the recipes with you for your next rainy day.

These were so yummy!  Loved them!

After making two batches of these, yup they were that good. I made some brownies! Now for some brownies and I usually don't get along. For some reason brownies are just one thing I just can't bake.  Once I saw these though I just knew I had to try making brownies again.

These were good. Just a word of advice. Don't over cook these or  the marshmallows  will go all over. Also don't over fill the batter.  I think next time I will use the mini marshmallows instead of the big ones.

Now at my house we are big on nachos, chips and dips! If chips are involved we are all over it!
So my next rainy day recipe is for an awesome dip!
This was  delicious!  My hubby says next time to add some chicken to it.

Well.....I've hoped you enjoyed my rainy day recipes! Remember

Giant kit kat!

I came across this and I just had to share this post on how to make a giant kit kat candy bar!

I'm in love! wouldn't this make a great  gift for a chocolate lover!

enjoy!

Time where does it all go?

Time where does it all go?  We have 24 hours in a day, should be enough time to get everything done that one needs to do in a day, right? Wrong.  funny thing is, I never seem to have enough time. When I'm doing one thing, I feel like I should be doing another. Isn't that silly.

Once again time has slipped by me a whole lot quicker than I expected and I'm left with a week or two to plan my two boys parties. Which I can't wait! The themes are angry birds and staches and strikes themes. They boys are so excited!

I was planning on making their invitations, but I just don't have the time to. Thankfully, there are so many creative people out there they have saved me and I can just print them off!

thanks to them I'm redeemed as the coolest mom ever! That's what my youngest said when he saw his invitations to his party!

I have to give a shout out to:http://partyinvitationshq.com/free-printable-angry-birds-invitations/  for once again allowing me to be cool!

I'm also printing out my older son's birthday invites. He is turning 13 so we are having a stache and strikes theme. Gonna be at a bowling alley with moustaches as a theme! He thinks its fun! wait till you see the straws!

Thanks to another great person I now have this fun invite for his party!
http://www.digitalmomblog.com/blog/2012/02/27/free-moustache-birthday-invitation-printable/

As always, I never have enough time. I have to end now to go get the kiddos from school.

Please remember when using items online to make sure that you have the right to print out the images.  Also please try to remember to give credit where credit is due. Everyone works so hard on all their items.

More post later with pictures from the boys parties!

Have a Happy Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Helping out

With my kids getting older them and myself are getting more involved in volunteering for different casuses. It is so great to see my kids get excited about all these great causes.  I just love seeing their faces when they find something they  are passionate about.

We  have started the Iowa hats for hope initiative. Which is where we knit and collect hats, gloves and scarfs for the poor and working poor in the state of Iowa. This is off to a great start. Our first donation goes out at the end of Sept. We are so excited.

Today though I wanted to talk about the crayons for cancer cause.  This is such a fun and rewarding cause to get behind. Would be great for any family to do,or a troop to do as an activity!

They send you what you need. you melt the crayons in fun little shapes and sell them. All proceeds go to them!

Check out this awesome activity to get behind.

What volunteer activities  do you and your family like to do?  I would love to hear!

Swing of things!

Wow! I can't believe its been about a week since my last post. That is just crazy! Time is sure flying by.

Life seems to be moving in fastforward here.  The kids are all in school now, which means we are all trying to get used to the new routine and time schedule.  With all the new activites the kids are in plus 3 different schools, it gets a little hectic trying to remember everything that is going on when.

So far the kiddos are loving school! Everyone seems to have so much to report after school each day they sometimes talk over eachother just so they can get their stories told.  I love being able to hear all of it!

With summer coming to an end, the kiddos are excited about our up coming garage sale. They look forward to it every year!
They are making room for all the new items they will be getting for christmas and their birthdays.  Its hard to believe they are already making their christmas list.

Still working away on the boys birthday parties. More on that later.

I'm still plugging away at my  online shop.  I'm excited, I've signed up for my first craft fair in october. I can't wait.

Haven't heard anything yet about my book I wrote, but  I havent given up hope yet. I'm even working on another book to put out there. Keep your fingers crossed for me.  :)

Hope your week is going great! Gonna leave you with a little thought. I just love quotes! they are so much fun!

Back to School! Already?

Wow! Its hard to believe that it is back to school time already. Where did the summer go?   So many things I wanted to do that I just didnt get around to yet. Come back summer! Im not quite ready for all the errands and running that comes with back to school time.  I wanna be in my bed sleeping, and staying up late eating marshmallows with my kids late at night.

I just love the lazy days of summer. Time goes by so quickly. My kids are now in school. One in high school, one in middle and two in elementary. Oh and one in college!  I'm so proud of all my kids they work so hard at the schooling and just amaze me at all they are learning.  Which is so much more than I had to at their age.

With the passing of summer comes one of my favorite seasons of fall.  I love the changing colors, crisp air and the smells that come with it.

With that being said, though I would like to say one last thing.

COME BACK SUMMER, MY BABIES ARE GROWING UP TOO FAST!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping the warmer weather sticks around a little  longer so I can sneek in some more marshmallow time.
Hoping that all your guys summer has been awesome!

thoughts, thoughts thoughts!

As a parent, I'm finding that there are always a lot of things to think about. Did I pay that bill? When is unpack your back pack night? Did I turn the stove off, Oh my gosh, the gas bill is due Today!
There always seems to be so many things running through my mind, that sometimes, I wonder how I keep it all straight. I do, just like every other person out there, but it is just crazy sometimes just how many thoughts one person can have at one time.

For instance while, I'm sitting here typing this, I'm reminding myself put the clothes in the dryer, you have to leave at 4 and so on.

I'm sure someone somewhere has a number on how many thoughts one person has in a day. I'm also sure that number is off the charts.

Is it possible to have too many thoughts?    Are what you thinking about right now what you should really be thinking about?   Are we suppose to have so many thoughts.   Are you getting distracted by all your thoughts.

See, now I'm sounding like a commercial. Are you having trouble with your thoughts then call 1xxxx for a free trial of thought x.  lol I'm so silly!

So I'm going to leave with you just one more  little thought:

have a great night!

August Already?!?

Wow! Its August Already! Time sure is flying by this summer! I hope to beable to get all the fun activites in that I still wanna do. I have to do back to school shopping yet. I'm not always thrilled about that. I'm not too keen on shoe shopping and taking 4 kids shoe shopping is an adventure in itself.

I do however love the low prices on glue, crayons, markers and all that jazz. Time to stock up my craft supplies.  Signed my daughter up for High school this year, wow thats another thing that shows time is flying by.  It seems like its too soon for me to have a daughter in High school! The next 4 years will be such a great adventure for and me.

A great reminder

Sometimes in life we all need a little reminder what it is all about. We become lost in the hustle and bustle of the days work, what needs to be done today, what bills we need to make sure get paid. Everyone including myself can sometimes forget to slow down and remember that among all the bills, jobs, and errands  that just have to get done. There is always time to do the right thing.

I was sent this in an email from my mother in law. From the moment I read it I just knew I had to pass this on!  What a great story to remind all of us to just slow down and do the right thing. I hope this story touches your heart as much as it has touched mine.

Hope you are a having a   great week! Enjoy!

Two Choices

What would you do?...you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its

Dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is done with perfection.

Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.

Where is the natural order of things in my son?'

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.'

Then he told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning..'

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three.

In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.

Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?

Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the

Plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.

The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay.

As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over.

The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman.

Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game..

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.

Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first!

Run to first!'

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base.

He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'

Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.

By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball . The smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head.

Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!

Shay, run to third!'

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team

'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world'.

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

AND NOW A LITTLE FOOT NOTE TO THIS STORY:

We all send thousands of jokes through the e-mail without a second thought, but when it comes to sending messages about life choices, people hesitate.

The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools and workplaces.

If you're thinking about forwarding this message, chances are that you're probably sorting out the people in your address book who aren't the 'appropriate' ones to receive this type of message Well, the person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference.

We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the 'natural order of things.'

So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice:

Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?

A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it's least fortunate amongst them.

You now have two choices:

1. Delete

2. Forward
May your day be a Shay Day.

MAY GOD BLESS EVERYONE WHO

DECIDES TO PASS THIS ON IN MEMORY OF SHAY..............

life slows down when.....

I  feel life slows down just a little when you are outside hanging up a load of clothes on the line. I don't know what it is,but laundry doesn't bother me as much when I'm hanging it up out on the clothes line.

Some people say the clothes line is a thing of the past, and many have laughed a little when they see me doing it still. I don't care. I have fond memories of hanging clothes out with both my mother and my grandmother. I can still remember playing in and out of the clothes hanging on the line.   Now I see my kids doing the same. Nothing beets a good memory!

While hanging up laundry today, I figured out I didn't have a clothes pin bag. So I decided to whip one up real quick using one of my daughters old shirts.

Who knew that one quick little project was going to turn into a family project.   Not only was I making this quick little project, but so was my daughter who designed the shirt for me,my son who helped by putting in the clothes pins, and helping me hang it up and take the awesome shot for me!

I just love it when a quick little project gets the whole family involved.  See life does slow down  just a little if we pay attention.

here is my little project for the day!

Happy Monday!

A week end of Firsts!

This week end has been just wonderful!   The weather has been amazing!   This has been a very fun filled week end for my family!  We have all experienced something for the first time!

My younger daughter went down her very first water slide! so proud of her! she had a blast!
My younger son  took his training wheels off his bike!  I can't believe how fast they have grown up!

For me, my first is I learned how to work with copper and made my very own rain chain! Pictures to come!  Oh my other first is my very first sun burn of the summer! Red as a lobster I am!  Had a blast at the pool though with my kiddos!

All in all I'm very happy and blessed this week end!  Hope everyone has a very relaxing Sunday!

butterflies, butterflies! oh How I love my butterflies!

I've had this butterfly puncher for awhile now, and just now recently started to use it. Oh how I love it! It creates such pretty little butterflies! I've used it for some recent cards I've made. Which of course I will share at the bottom of this post.

There is nothing quite as calming as working with paper. Folding, cutting, inking, and watching it transform into  something wonderful!  It has become one of my great hobbies. while I like to dabble in other crafts, I always come back to my scrapbooking and card making.

In the one picture you can see my favorite puncher of the month!

I hope you all have a hobby that you can say is peaceful and relaxing!

enjoy my butterflies! Hope you have a great day!

Happy Sunday!

Happy Sunday!   I just love Sunday's, they are just a laid back kinda day. We aren't in a hurry running places. Yes, I still have to work, and do the dishes and stuff, but being able to take my time doesn't make it seem like such a chore.

Today, I'm hoping to finish my loom knitted bag, watch a movie, play a game with the kiddos before I go to work.

I found this awesome site that has lots of loom knitted projects, that I'm hoping  to get to try soon.

  Happy Memorial Day!

Thank you to all the families that have served, and are serving! I can't express how much we appreciate all you do!

Have a fun and a safe week!

Book Review!

I just love to read! Reading, crafting, and spending time with family and friends is what I love to do. Not in any particular order.lol

I've been reading books by one certain author lately, and I must say, I just absolutely love her!

Her name is Sandra Bricker. She has written books, like the one I just finished called Always the designer, never the Bride. Always, the baker, never the bride and many more.

In Always, the Designer, never the bride. There is a young lady who is talented at making wedding dresses, and is trying to keep her business alive. Which at some points seems very hard. She ends up going back home for a friends wedding, and things just kinda twist and turn while she is there. Her whole world is going crazy. Of course there is a guy, what good is a romance without a hero.
boy oh boy! Do I just love the way the hero is portrayed in this story. Well done!
I'm not going to go into details, because you just have to experience this book for yourself, trust me You will love this author.
There is just something about her style of writing that makes the books read so smoothly. Before you know it you finished the book.
The books make you laugh out loud and for me that is a must. If its too serious, I just cant get into the story.

I would highly recommend picking up a copy of one her books and taking a look! Before you know it you will be hooked just like me!

  Happy Reading!

crayon art

Okay, I did it! I finally tried my hand at this melted crayon art that I've been seeing everywhere. I only had a small canvas to work with, but my 11 year daughter and I had fun making this!

For those who don't know what you do is you take some crayons, broken or new, and a canvas. You decide how you want your design to go and you hot glue the crayons on to the canvas. You then take your hair dryer and begin to melt the crayons. This was the fun part!

Now some things I would do different is make sure you have a newspaper down to catch the wax, also if you want the lines to be straight I would tip the canvas up, not have it laying flat on the table like I did.

This was a fun project and I plan on doing some more in the future when I have some more canvas and crayons. For some reason  a family with four kids, I had very little crayons in my house.

Gonna have to hit that back to school hard this upcoming year!

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful day!

Playing in the dirt! :)

I couldn't  wait till spring came,  so I could start getting things ready for my garden. Thanks to my grandma, I can have a big garden with lots of great veggies in it! She lets me use her yard.  So far this year, I have pea pods, beans, carrots, zucchini, squash, egg plant, two different kinds of tomato's, lettuce, cucumber.

this year we are trying to grow watermelon, and pumpkin! I can't wait to see these start growing!

The pea pods, and beans, and radishes have started to sprout. I'm so excited every year to watch everything grow. I could do without the snakes, and the weeding, but hey, what can you do. lol

I remember this one summer, grandmas yard was over run with squash! Her whole back yard was just filled with it. It still makes me laugh when I think about it!

I'm thinking about trying my hand at canning this year. I really never tried it before, mostly just like to freeze things. I just love my two giant freezers my hubby got for me.
I also wanna try making jelly too. I can remember my mom every summer making jelly or trying to. She always seemed to manage to catch the kitchen curtains on fire. Never fails, every summer! Awww! great memories. I think she just wanted new curtains, and this was her excuse. lol

Well.... I don't have any pictures of my veggie garden, but here are some of my flowers that I have growing in my yard. Don't mind the weeds.

   Have a beautiful day!

Busy, Busy, Busy

Its been so crazy here at the house I feel like I haven't had 5 minutes to myself to think.

We went to a hotel for the night last  week end and the kids and I had a blast swimming and sitting
in the hot tub. It was nice to just relax and have fun for a day. The next day we went to a rock and gem show at our local museum where the kids got to make  their own arrow head. The show was quite interesting to see. There was so many different rocks and activities going on you weren't sure which way to start.
I did find a lady who was making her own glass beads. I tried that once, but I'm not as good as her. I did however get some pointers from her and might give it another go this week end.  I'll have to keep you posted.

Right now, I'm reading the 39 clues series. I must say I'm quite impressed by the action that these books have. I am on the 6th book now. I sure hope those kids win because otherwise it will be a sad ending.
I'm off to try out a new recipe for peanut butter cookies.

I just love to bake and cook. So many recipes, so little time!

Hope you are all having a great week!

I love being a mom!

  I just love being a mom! I say this everyday. My friends ask "isn't it hard taking care of 4 kids?;
I just say no! I love it! I wouldn't change it for the world. Well....if I had more, that would be okay, but we will just let that be for now.

Now, I'm not saying being a mom is easy by any means, its not. I'm just saying that it is the most fulfilling and frustrating thing at the same time.
I can honestly say that my kids and my hubby are my life. No that doesn't make me sad or pathetic or anything else. I have a great support team to help me with anything I wanna do, gonna do or sometimes get pushed into trying.

For example, my son has been struggling with his math for the longest time, then Bam! he gets it. Watching, that pride and excitement in him for getting the math is just awesome!  Seeing him go around saying go ahead and ask me, then hear him say that's easy, is just unbelievable.

While I know, there will be more challenges that  I know my family will have to face. Some easy, some not so easy. I do know that we will get through it just fine.

So if you haven't go hugs your kids or your spouse or even give your loved ones a call. You never what challenges they may be facing.

          Have an Awesome day!
